Opinion on JD com

JD.com is undervalued with a core business valued at approximately $15bn after subtracting $24bn in net cash, while margins are improving and management is returning capital to shareholders. The primary risks are China-specific regulation, governance concentration, and potential price wars in competitive segments like food delivery.

I think there is a general misunderstanding of how Chinese Companies work and why I will never buy one

Chinese companies like JD use variable interest entity (VIE) structures registered in the Cayman Islands, meaning Western investors own no direct interest in the underlying business or its cash flows. The VIE structure leaves investors vulnerable to loss of ownership claims if the parent company restructures.
